Hi my son will have just turned one when we go on holiday to Portugal. The taxi company have advised that we will not need a child seat in a mini bus but I am concerned that my son is so small for his age (under 9th centile) that it would be safer for him to travel in his own seat rather than on my lap. Please could you provide any advice. Am I just overreacting?

Hi Keshia! You are not overeacting at all--I was always a stickler for bringing along
I'm not sure if by mini-bus you mean an actual shuttle bus (where you would

We re planning a trip (2 hour plane ride) when my baby will be 17 months old. First time on a plane. Do we need to buy him a seat? What should we take? For entertainment, etc. thanks!

Hi Ivette! You don't have to buy your child a seat until they are two, but if you decide to you will need to use a car seat on board. A two-hour flight is a good length to get used to flying, so make sure you have lots of snacks, a few "low tech" things like colouring bins and crayons and even a travel etch a sketch. Of course a tablet loaded with new games and shows is the easiest thing to keep toddlers engaged, but save it for last if you can, since it's hard to go back once you've brought it out. Here are some more tips and info I hope you'll find helpful... Have a great trip! http://havebabywilltravel.com/2012/06/12/flying-with-baby-travel-tips-for-flying-with-a-toddler-12-24mos/ |
We are traveling in Feb and we have a connecting flight because there were not any direct flights available!
We are currently “sleep training” as I am attempting to end the night feedings and co-sleeping. I have a feeling I will have a month filled without sleep and probably a lot of frustration however my biggest worry is that as soon as we have it down in mid feb it will all go to waste, as our trip is 2 weeks long, and there only sleeping I can think of at the in-laws will be in the pack in play, if we bring it.
Should I wait til after the trip to stay focused on the crib sleeping or just tackle it now? Will it be more likely that he will adapt to sleeping in the pack in play if he has been sleeping in the crib alone for a month?
As of right now... all naps are in crib & only last about 30-45 min. He starts his night in the crib but after he cries for a bout an hour around midnight I alway give in and take him bed. I’m really frustrated with that actually.
Thanks

Hi Megan! I certainly feel for you as a consistent sleep schedule is so essential for
If you do get him consistently sleeping in his own bed before you go,
In spite of your best efforts, it is very likely you will have a regression

Hi I’m travelling internationally with my 14 month old and I’m thinking about buying an extra convertible car seat to be our “travel car seat” as I don’t want to take our Nuna one, with fears that it will get damaged. Wondering if you have any recommendations for lightweight and easy to install options?
Cheers,
Cris.

I'm a nervous flyer generally, so I have extra worry trying to care for my 3 little kids and stay calm. Any advice or strategies?

Hi Liz! Probably my best advice is to be SUPER organized and plan out your flight in your head in advance with regard to food and activities. Hopefully you will be so busy that you won't have a chance to feel anxious. I found my kids really picked up on my moods if I was stressed so I tried extra hard to remain cool and calm in the face of delays and other travel annoyances. In cases of turbulence when my kids were worried I found that being overly cheerful and blasé about it helped me feel less nervous too! It definitely takes a concerted effort but it was definitely worth it. Then, treat yourself to a nice glass of wine once you've arrived and they're down for the night!! |
