when to switch from 2 naps to 1?
CAITLIN, PARENT OF 5 YEAR OLD, 5 YEAR OLD, 2 YEAR OLD

My son just turned one and he's fighting his afternoon nap (many times not taking it at all). The problem is that he's exhausted for his first nap by 9 am, i can't imagine pushing that time so he can just take one big nap later in the day. Any suggestions?

Hi Caitlin! Babies on average don't drop their second nap until at least 14 months of age, up until that time they need their two naps for ideal mental and physical development. Him going to one nap now would most likely result in a lot less sleep overall as he is still too young to go for more than 3hours without sleeping. If he's exhausted by 9 am, try to move the time up a little earlier, wake him at 10:30 the latest and put him back down between 12:30 and 1 and see if that helps.
