Making photo books
JULIE , PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD

I would like to make photo books for my parents and my in laws for Christmas. Do you have recommendations on sites that I can use to create them myself?

Ana

Hi Julie,

Thanks for reaching out ;) I have always used Shuttefly (desktop view). Awesome quality!! Recently I discovered ZNO and it is very cool too! The quality is great and the app is super easy! They offer you a desktop view too. You can find photobooks starting at $10. I have done it a couple times and had no issues ;)

Hope it is helpful! Let me know!

Quick print photo apps from phone
SHAYNA, PARENT OF 4 YEAR OLD

I have so many pictures on my phone that I never do anything with. I would like to be able to use an app to quickly print them off to add to frames around the house. I'm not really looking for cropping or editing because I can do that on my iPhone. Any suggestions?

Ana

Hi Shayna,

Thanks for reaching out!! I always use Shutterfly. They offer you free 4x6 prints almost all the time if you use the app. If you are looking for bigger sizes, you can also use the app or the desktop view and the quality is great! There is another app called Free Prints. You only pay for shipping. I have never tried it but heard great reviews ;)

Hope it is helpful!

Sharing Apps?
JAIMIE, PARENT OF 2 YEAR OLD

Thanks for taking our questions! I would love to hear what apps you use for sharing photos with family and friends. I'm uncomfortable posting too many pictures to Facebook and looking for a secure alternative.

Ana

Hi Jaimie,

Thanks for your interest! I am very simple! I always use google drive. You can also use google photos or dropbox. I create a folder and upload the photos, and then share the link with everyone and keep adding photos so they see the old and new ones. You can use Whatsapp too. It is a text message app, but you can also send photos and don't have to upload them anywhere. You send them right from your phone to everyone you want. You can create a family/friends group and send 30 photos at once ;)

Hope it is helpful!!
Thanks

Best Positions for Different Ages
ALEXIS, PARENT OF 4 YEAR OLD

We have a very mobile toddler and an infant. What are the best positions to capture them both for portraits? Having the toddler hold the infant is not really an option :)

Ana
ANA

Hi Alexis!

Thanks for reaching out! I know... it is hard to get a toddler to stay still!!

I always ask what the older sibling wants to do and go from there. The toddler needs to do activities while the infant is more portable ;) I usually lay the infant down or sitting position (if they already can) next to the sibling while this one draws or paints or looks at books/leaves, and then call their attention and snap (take the photo)!!

You can try to take a picture from different angles (not just front) and close (so they come out sharper). Your oldest one can lay down next to your infant and you take the picture from above. The secret is to make it fun but not out of control so the toddler does not go crazy haha

Hope it is helpful! Let me know!
Thanks

Apps to edit photos on iPhone
SUSAN, PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD, 9 MONTH OLD

Hi Ana! Could you recommend some apps that you can use to do some fun photo editing (like adding text or stickers) that's not SnapChat or Instagram?? Would love to get more creative!

Ana

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your interest :) I have tried several app to find the best one for myself. I found Baby Pics App right after I had my baby and it is super cool. They offer you a bunch of artwork for free (including a fun section) and you can also pay a little extra and get access to all of them! You can include text, image, and filter. Give it a try (first, for free)!!

Hope you like it!
Thanks

Good toddler photos for a busy mom
MARIA, PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD

Hi Ana,
My 19 month old and I are always on the go. I don't have alot of time to learn to use a DSLR camera but I would like to take good quality photos with my camera phone. Mine often come out blurry since my daughter is very active, but my actual camera phone is pretty high quality. Is there a simple and quick crash course that I can take somewhere about capturing good photos with a camera phone? I could also use a good editing app, right now I am using Google photos for everything but I feel like the editing could be better.
Thanks for your help,
Maria

Hi Maria,

I know what you are talking about... I have a 16 months old and am a photographer, and my phone-photos still come out blury haha

Regarding to the course. I would suggest MassArt in Boston. They offer different classes through the summer and I recall one related to photographing with a phone. The site is www.massart.edu. You can look into it! I am also sharing my own tricks below ;)

1. Keep your photos simple. The less the better, as every detail could be a distraction. When I am taking photos of my 16 months old with my iPhone... I avoid extra people/things in the frame. It is hard because our Little ones move faster as time goes by.
2. Shoot from a low angle and closer to the subject. The photo will look sharper and will capture more details from your Little one. If it is very close, you will see that everything around looks blury (it is out of focus and gives a very nice composition!)
3. Avoid shadows. It is always better to find a spot under trees or behind a building than at a sunny and open space.

Regarding to the app... I have tried different app and will keep three. Snapseed, Lightroom, and Instagram (IG). You can use all of them and don´t need to post any photo (you can edit with IG and delete the post but save the photo in your pone). I love bright and warm photos so I always edit exposure (high) and contrast (low). You can make those changes in any of those applications.

Hope all this info is helpful. Let me know further questions.
Thanks for reaching out.

Editing
SELMA, PARENT OF 2 YEAR OLD

I have been taking monthly pictures of
My daughter with month markers. Well each photo I always put a white onesie on her. However, on month 8 I put a colored onesie on her. Is it possible to get that edited or changed to white?

Ana
ANA

Hi Selma,

That is such a cute idea!! Love it! You are looking for heavier editing. I would use Photoshop to change the color of the onesie but it will take time to do it. Are you familiar with Photoshop?

Another option... I would print black and white photos ;) I am not sure what you would like to do with the photos, but it could be an option. If you print them for a 1st birthday party or an album, you could print them b&w and no one would tell the difference. The onesie will be darker but the composition of the photos would match.

Let me know about your Photoshop experience and see what else we can do.

Thanks for reachin out!

Taking iPhone pictures
SKYLER, PARENT OF 2 YEAR OLD

Hi there! So I have a DSLR camera and I love the pictures it takes but when I'm running around with my 8 month old it's not something I use often. Can my iPhone take similar quality photos? Should I be using a certain app to make them look more professional? Thanks!

Ana

Hi Skyler,

Thanks for your interest ;) I hear you! I am a photograher and don´t carry on my camera all the time either. Nowadays phones can be a great on-the-go tool. I would share some tricks to improve photos with your iPhone.

Hope these tips are helpful and easy to put in practice!!
