Are you wondering how to make Graduation Day special for your little one? Or do you know a child who is graduating from Preschool or Kindergarten? Ask Tinyhood Gear Expert, Natalie G. for advice on the best gifts for your little grad!
My son is finishing preschool this year which means that he is moving to the "big kids" school. We were thinking of tying this achievement to a "big kid" gift like a bike. Basically graduating from a scooter. Do you have any recommendations on bikes that would be good for this age? We see a lot of balance bikes in the neighborhood and were wondering if that would be better than a bike with training wheels. Please let me know your thoughts.
Hi Cindy,
Current literature on the subject states that balance bikes are actually better for teaching young children how to ride a bike rather than traditional training wheels. The hardest part of learning to ride a bike is learning to balance so by teaching this skill first, the thinking is that it’s then easier for children to learn to ride a bicycle with pedals.
It’s best to look for one that has an adjustable seat so not only will be the right size for you son now but will grow with him.
