Glass
CAROLINA, PARENT OF 22 MONTH OLD

We have a TV that has glass drawers. My daughter is crawling over to the stand and slamming on the glass. We can remove the doors but I’m wondering if there is anything that we can put to shield the glass instead?

Hi Carolina,

If you are worried about the glass shattering I would remove the doors for the time being until your daughter is old enough to learn not to bang on them. You can put a strap on the outside of the doors if opening them becomes a problem but there isn’t a product on the market specifically made to shield glass doors. If you do decide to remove the doors but you have a dvd player or another device inside the the console you can use a dvd guard to dissuade your daughter from pushing the buttons.

This is also a good time to consider anchoring your tv to your tv stand and anchoring the tv stand to the wall if you haven’t already done so!

Childproofing door knobs
RHONDA

My little one has been locking the door to her room and I am worried that she is going to lock herself in. Are there special door knobs that we should install or covers that can be put on over an existing door knob?

There are several cover options, depending on the kind of doorknob you have.

Hi Rhonda,

Here are two options for child proofing your daughter’s door:

The first is to install a door knob cover over the handle of the door. Other door knob covers do not cover the lock mechanism on the handle but these from Safety 1st do.

If you’d rather not put a cover on the door knob, another option is the Wittle Finger Pinch Guards which prevent the door shutting.
