Baby Monitor with the largest range
BECKY, PARENT OF 7 YEAR OLD, 4 YEAR OLD, 2 YEAR OLD, 2 YEAR OLD

Hi Natalie! My daughter's room is on the far side of our house and there are a lot of walls. The old motorola (I've had for 3 years) range was not long enough to work in our bedroom. I imagine there are better monitors out there now. While I don't care about the picture quality, I would need a video monitor (not audio only). Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Becky,

Here are two newer, long-range baby monitor models, including a Motorola, to consider.

Motorola MBP36

Infant Optics DXR-8

BECKY

Thanks!

BECKY

Actually, these are the two monitors I already own and bought over two years ago. They do not have great range. When I look on Amazon, they have a quick comparison of the monitors and these two fall on the lower end of range.

Baby Gates
CHRISTI, PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD

Hi Natalie! Do you have any suggestions for baby gates? My daughter is only 7months old, but she’s already crawling off our large mat and quickly wandering into other areas. Our apartment has a very open format where the living/ dining/ kitchen is all one big space, so the gate would need to be freestanding (or instead, connect from a wall to the back of our couch-not sure this exists) to enclose the area. We will be moving this summer, so hoping for something that is generally easy to put up and take down. Thanks

Natalie

Hi Christi,

Here are a few options that may work well for your space.

The first is the KidCo® Custom Fit Auto Close ConfigureGate. It’s allows you to configure the gate to your spatial needs.

Or you could consider a fully enclosed gate system which will create more of a safe play area within your apartment.

/>You can either purchase 2 sets of the KidCo gate listed above or for a more budget-friendly enclosed gate, A North State Superyard Classic Play Yard which folds, is portable and can also be used outdoors.

Nursery Clock and Sound Machine
MICHELLE, PARENT OF 4 YEAR OLD

Hi! Any clocks you recommend for a baby room? Also, what are the best sound machines? Thanks!

Natalie
NATALIE

Hi Michelle,

Are you looking for a decorative clock for your nursery or a digital one for you to use?

As for sound machines, the most trusted and reliable brand is Marpac Dohm. They come in two sizes, a larger one and then one that's portable.

https://marpac.com/

If you're looking for something cuter for a baby room, the Skip Hop Soother is also great and comes with a few other functions such as a light that can be helpful.

Lastly, the Hatch Baby Rest is an innovative and tech friendly option that you will can get a lot of use from as it doubles as a 'wait-to-wake' clock for toddlers.

Carseat
MEGHA, PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD, 12 MONTH OLD

Hi there,
I have the Chico keyfit 30 for my son.
He’s only 6 months old but is 20lbs and 28-29 inches long.
His harness is in the highest adjustment and i was wondering
1. Should the head rest be removed?
2. He has to meet both height and weight requirements before changing seats right?
3. This seat can not be reversed right? We have to get a whole new car seat...

Thanks! Megha

Hi Megha,

The Chico key fit 30 is suitable for children up to 30 inches tall and 30 lbs. But if your son seems uncomfortable you can go ahead an upgrade to a convertible car seat which is much bigger and roomier.

To answer your questions specifically:

Do not remove any part of the car seat unless you are referring to the ‘newborn positioner’ which he has outgrown and can be removed if it hasn’t been already.
He does not have to meet the height and weight requirements of his infant car seat before purchasing a convertible car seat. If it seems to you that he’d be more comfortable in a larger car seat, you can go ahead and start using a convertible one such as the Chicco NextFit.
Yes, you will have to purchase a new seat. You currently have an infant car seat and the next one you will purchase is called a convertible car seat. Your son should ride rear-facing until his 2nd birthday or until he meets the rear-facing weight capacity of his convertible car seat.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Large stroller advice
SAM

I'm a first-time mom, and will probably be a second-time mom pretty soon. Even though I know I want to have children close together, I'm not sure I want to commit to a large stroller at the moment. Any advice?

Natalie
NATALIE

Unless you know you only want to purchase one stroller, there is no need to get a big stroller that’s capable of seating two children just yet. Since most people end up buying a lighter weight stroller anyway, you could start off with this one and upgrade to a larger stroller later.

If you plan to use your stroller with a car seat, just make sure you purchase a stroller that is compatible with the car seat you have or plan to purchase.

Changing pad??
BAILEY

I recently found a gorgeous vintage dresser at a yard sale, and would love to use it in my daughter's nursery. What changing pad should I buy to go with it?

Natalie
NATALIE

For vintage dressers or any dresser that does not have a built-in changing pad top, I recommend you purchase one with a non-slip surface for added safety. Here are four options ranging in price points. The Bumbo is a budget-friendly option. The Keekaroo is the longest so you’ll get a lot of use out of it. The Hatch is the same price as the Keekaroo but you get added benefits such as a scale that works with a smart phone. The Leander is the most expensive, widest and comes in some unique colors.
