Traveling with 10mo old...
MEGAN, PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD

We are taking a trip from CA to FL and my baby will be 10mo at the time. Any essentials for the trip? I saw the baby hammock you can attach to the seat in the airplane but I think my boy will be too large for that by that time... are you familiar with that item? Sadly we have to take a connecting flight because there aren’t any direct flights that go to SW FL, anything to make it easier on me? Do I check the pack n play?

Hi Megan,

Since you have a connecting flight, I would suggest checking as much as possible so you don’t have to tote a lot during your connection.

Unfortunately the hammock is for newborns so your son will have outgrown it. I recommend you bringing a baby carrier for napping and being able to be hands-free with be very helpful. Another piece of gear you could consider bringing is a really compact stroller that you can bring on the flight with you. That way you can get to your next flight as quickly as possible.

Here are four strollers that fit in an overhead compartment on an airplane:

Travel Bag with wheels for Convertible Carseat?
ELLEN, PARENT OF 5 YEAR OLD, 3 YEAR OLD

Hi - we are planning to take a flight soon with our two young sons. We will have two of the Radian RXT convertible carseats with us. We have used the Radian travel bags with it in the past, but its not very easy to use - no wheels or shoulder straps on ours. Is there a better product out there that we can use for a travel bag? Ideally it has wheels and is easy to carry because we will have our hands full!

Here are some other options for toting your Radian RXT car seats around the airport:

The Chicco Universal Car Seat Travel Bag gives you both the option to wheel and carry backpack style.

The second is the Britax Car Seat Travel Cart which fits most car seats. The nice thing about this one is that you can let your little ones ride in their car seats around the airport and the cart itself folds down and can fit in most overhead compartments.

Carseat or caddy?
MARTINA

I'm traveling to California with my lo in the coming weeks, and I'm torn—should I invest in a new carseat or just buy a caddy to put our current seat in?

Hi Martina,

I just want to clarify your question so I can answer it best! Are you asking whether it's best to purchase a new car seat once you arrive in California or to take the one you currently have with you? Thanks! Looking forward to helping you with your question.

Transition to booster seat
JESSICA

Hi! At what age would you recommend making the switch to a booster seat? I have a feeling that my 9-month-old will be ready to make the transition soon.

If you’re currently using an infant car seat, you’ll upgrade to a convertible car seat next. It is recommended that all children ride rear-facing until their 2nd birthday or when they reach the highest weight and height capacity of their car seat, at which time you can turn the seat to face forward. Most children transition to a booster seat when they reach 40 lbs and are at least 35 inches tall, depending on the booster seat manufacture's stipulations. This is usually around the age of 4.
