Make your next trip to the grocery store a breeze! Get your little one started on solids with foods they'll be sure to love. Led by Registered Dietitian, Janel Funk.
My seven-month-old and I are getting frustrated. We've tried avocado, roasted carrots, sweet potatoes, bananas, pumpkin, peas, etc. She either bites off a piece and spits it back out or just sucks on the food. Any advice?

Hi Gladys - Sorry to hear you're frustrated! Are you doing the baby led weaning approach? Let me know, but in the meantime, it's great she's tasting any food, even if it's not quite making it into her tummy! Remember the phrase "under 1, just for fun." This means that under the age of 1, solids are more for flavor/texture exposure and getting your baby ready to be on a diet of all solids, than actually eating full meals. So the exposure she's getting from biting and sucking food is really great for this age! Curious to hear if you're doing the BLW approach. Thanks! |
Baby and I are both getting tired of purees. What solids can we start experimenting with?

Hi Courtney - How old is your baby? You can really start with any texture-appropriate and size-appropriate food! If your baby loves puree sweet potatoes, you can try removing the skin and roasting tiny-pieces for him to pick up and eat. If he loves mashed banana, try small pieces of soft ripe banana instead. As your baby gets closer to 1 year, s/he should be eating whatever the family eats! So heading in that direction - which it sounds like you're ready for! - is the next step. Once I know how old your baby is I'm happy to give more suggestions. |
