How can i get my 1month old baby back to breastfeeding

Hi, Shekiah -- congratulations on your new baby! Have you been pumping? If not, we'll want to work on re-starting your milk supply with consistent/frequent pumping (ideally, every 3 hours for about 20 minutes). Then, once we've gotten your milk flowing again, we can transition baby back to breast. In the meantime, I would recommend a lot of skin to skin cuddling and if baby wants to latch...great! |
Hello I was diagnosed with the flu this morning and was prescribed tamiflu and have read mixed things about whether or not is ok to take while breastfeeding. The doctor said it was safe but I need some reassurance.

Oh no! I hope you feel better. The CDC considers tamiflu (Oseltamivir) safe while breastfeeding. It is rated an L2 on scale of L1 (safest) vs L5 (hazardous). Please see this link for more info: |

Sara thank you! |
Hi! I have a 10-day old (she is my third breastfed baby but it’s been 3 years since I last nursed so I’m a little out of practice!) I am struggling to get her to latch appropriately on the left side. I think I know the things I need to do to get a deeper latch, but it seems harder to get her to do it on the left side (right side latch is good and I nurse her using cross cradle or cradle on that side). The LC at the hospital where I delivered suggested switching to football hold (when I called the warm line yesterday), which seems to help a little but I can’t see the bottom of her mouth well and have trouble making sure her lip is out. She also seems to sort or bite down at the top, at least at the start - is there a trick to getting that lip out as well and discouraging the biting? Finally, any tips for healing the nipple? I’ve been using lanolin between each feed, but I’d love any other suggestions.

Good morning. Usually, the best way to increase supply is to empty breasts (with nursing or pumping) more frequently (and efficiently). How frequently do you nurse or pump currently? Are you using your hands to help baby get more milk flow at breast and maximize output while nursing? |
When will my milk come

Good morning. Usually transitional milk comes in around day 5-7. But, that depends on a lot of different things...especially how often baby is put to breast in those first few days. Since milk production is based on supply and demand, you'll want to offer baby the breast anytime you notice a feeding cue (lip smacking, hand to mouth, etc). Newborn babies generally eat 8-12 times in a 24 hour period (sometimes more!). |
