It is officially the start of summer, and successful adventures always start with a well-packed diaper bag. But what does a well-packed diaper bag even include (besides diapers and wipes)? .
Just like that, summer is here! Are you ready to be out-and-about with your little one? Successful adventures always start with a well-packed diaper bag.
But what does a well-packed diaper bag even include (besides diapers and wipes)? We partnered with CVS to round up 10 summer diaper bag essentials.
10 Must-Haves for Summer Adventures
Snacks. Snacks don’t solve all problems, but they solve a whoooole lot of them. In the summertime, just make sure to bring ones that can stand up to summer heat if you plan on being out for a good part of the day.
Hand sanitizer. Another no-brainer for diaper bags, but when was the last time you actually checked how much you had left, especially after winter cold & flu season? (Plus, we hate to say it, but summer colds are a thing, too…)
Sunscreen. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends choosing a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15. The brand and type you choose is up to you but where possible, choose mineral-based sunscreens like those made using zinc oxide and avoid the ingredient oxybenzone. If your baby is under 6 months, the AAP says to use sunscreen on small areas of the body, like the face, if protective clothing and shade are not available.
Toys. We know, your house is probably filled with toys, but packing 2-3 small toys in your diaper bag can be the key to combating sudden baby boredom when you are out and about in the summer.
Hand & face wipes. Whether it’s dirt on the playground, sand at the beach, or a cup of soft serve, you will likely have more messes to clean than you did during the winter, so pack these accordingly!
Extra clothes and a plastic bag. When it comes to blowouts, a wet wipe can’t always save the day. In that case, have an extra set of clothes packed for your child and yourself, and have a spare plastic bag to throw the dirty clothes in.
Straw cup or toddler-friendly water bottle. If your baby is over 6 months, they can be introduced to water and should be drinking 4-8 ounces daily. And babies over 1 need even more than that! Opt for a straw-style water bottle that can close to minimize spillage.
Sun protective clothing & gear. The weather can change quickly in the summer. A summer storm can quickly give way to blazing sun. Pack SPF clothing, a sun hat, and sunglasses for your baby, and throw in an extra pair of glasses and a hat for you!
Swim diapers. You never know when you will stumble upon a splash pad when out and about in the summertime. Having some swim diapers stored away leaves you ready to say “yes” to some spontaneous fun.
Waterproof blanket. A lightweight, waterproof blanket can double as a picnic blanket so you can enjoy a snack in the sun or a way to wipe down a wet swing after a summer storm.
