Detailed Posting Guidelines
#1: Be welcoming to all other group members and respectful of our diverse community.
Our goal is to bring all San Bruno parents together! Keep in mind that the SBPC welcomes ALL local parents, and we are a large group with diverse backgrounds and values. We aim to provide an inclusive space that makes all members feel comfortable participating in the conversation. Posts or comments that are exclusionary, derogatory, or objectify any gender, race, or other group or class or people are not permitted. Any kind of personal attack that shames, insults, or “flames” another member is not allowed. We also respect one another’s parenting choices, even if they’re different from our own. Discussions about potentially sensitive or “hot button” topics like circumcision, breastfeeding, and vaccination may arise here, and we permit respectful and friendly discussion of different opinions in the interest of building community. But this is not the place to start a debate on such topics, and inflammatory posts or personal attacks are not allowed.

#2: Respect the privacy of our members and their families .
Our online community is meant for immediate family members only. Do not share access, photos, or screenshots with non-members, even if they are caregivers or friends..
Please be sensitive to common privacy and safety concerns. Do not post any photo where you have reason to believe the subject of the photo would not want it shared in the group. If you post a photo that includes any minor who is not your own child and whose parent has not given you permission to post their picture, please crop, obscure, or cover the child's face and any other identifying features.

#3: Posting free and for-sale items on Facebook on Fridays only is highly encouraged. Post free and for-sale items on Tinyhood any day of the week.
Posting free and for-sale items to the Tinyhood Marketplace is highly encouraged to include our members who aren't on Facebook. Posting on Facebook is encouraged on Fridays only to avoid posts clutter.
Posted items must comply with all laws, regulations or restrictions imposed by local, state and/or federal government. Members may not post any prohibited items—for free or for sale—including, but not limited to, the following: prescription drugs and medical devices, including but not limited to prescription or contact lenses, defibrillators, hypodermic needles or hearing aids; items containing certain hazardous substances, including but not limited to contaminated toys. Any items recalled by a manufacturer or prohibited from sale and/or donation by local, state and/or federal government also shall not be posted, including drop-side cribs. Buyers are advised to check with product manufacturers and/or appropriate regulatory bodies prior to purchase or acquisition of any good posted in the group. The SBPC does not warrant and is not liable for any item sold or given away through the San Bruno Parents Club Chat Group or Tinyhood.
Do NOT resell items that you accept here for free. If you accept an item and no longer need it, or if you have finished using it, please repost here, hand it down to someone you know, or donate it to a family or nonprofit organization that can continue to use the item.

#4: No commercial solicitations. (Temporarily suspended)
#4 of our posting guidelines is normally to restrict commercial solicitations. Since we are not in normal circumstances, we understand that the livelihood of small business owners, contractors, hourly employees, and others, has been jeopardized by the impact of coronavirus. We are putting rule #4 on pause for our members to post ways we can support them. If you sell a product or service that can be delivered to members, perhaps in new ways such as no contact delivery, virtual meeting, prepaid in advance, etc., feel free to post. If you know of a business who needs the support of our members and can provide a benefit to our members, please share too.

If someone requests information about products or services, then of course you may respond with information about a business.
The exceptions to this rule are limited to the following types of service providers that you have used directly: nannies/babysitters, au pairs (who are already here and looking for a new position), and daycares or preschools with openings. In order to maintain the integrity of our community, please only post regarding a caregiver you have actually employed. Please do not post about your own business, on behalf of a non-members caregiver, or your caregiver's friends, unless you have utilized their services yourself and can make a recommendation based on your own experience.]

#5: No planning events on behalf of the club.
All SBPC events are coordinated by the board so we can look at the big picture to create a cohesive schedule of events that support and engage our community. Should you wish to plan your own non-commercial event or activity, you may poll the group for interest once, leading your post with the header *Not an SBPC event*. Then, all further communication regarding your event should occur outside the group.
Posts about impromptu plans, such as, “I’m heading to Grundy Park with my kids at 2 if anyone wants to join!” are fine as long as they do not compete with official club events.

#6: No Political Messages or Debate.
The San Bruno Parents Club’s primary purpose is to be a warm, welcoming place for all local parents. As such, please refrain from posting political opinions, commentary, or debate.
Should you wish to form your own group, you may poll the group for interest once, leading your post with the header *Not an SBPC-affiliated group* and encourage interested members to contact you directly. In your brief description, avoid language that invites political discussion or refers to specific political action.
Suggested template:
“*Not an SBPC-affiliated group*
I am organizing a group of people/parents who are interested in [topic] . If you are interested in joining, please PM me for details.”

#7: Be mindful about posting negative reviews.
Negative reviews for local businesses, doctors, caregivers, etc. may be posted, but please be mindful that on social media your words can do significant and lasting damage. We suggest using the following language:
“I had a negative experience with [blank]. If you are thinking of hiring/patronizing this caregiver/business, please contact me.”

#8: Do not post "for a friend."
We have a wonderfully engaged club, so there is already enough traffic in our chat group. This group for the exclusive use of SBPC members. If a friend wants to post, encourage them to join the SBPC.

#9: No Chain messages, Virus Warnings, Spam, etc.
The main goal of our chat group is to give our members a forum to discuss parenting topics and get support. We do not want these important threads to get lost in the noise.
