Nipps
AUTUMN, PARENT OF 2 YEAR OLD

Tips of nipples are turning black I wash them it goes away for a second and is back

Natalie
NATALIE

Hi Autumn,

I'd suggest purchasing new nipples as they shouldn't turn black and then try using a specific bottle cleaning soap such as Dapple. It really helps to get grimy bottles clean.

And a bottle brush can also help in getting bottles as clean as possible. This one from oxo includes a small nipple brush.

In that case, I would recommend you speak to a medical professional.

Relocating halfway across the world alone with 4 kids 4years old and younger
NIMRAH, PARENT OF 2 YEAR OLD

Hi! I’m trying to book the best construction of my flights for the kids. It’ll be me and my 4,3,2 and 9 month old traveling. Do I do the 12 hour flight overnight with a shorter 2 hour flight? Break it up 6hrs and 6hrs? 9hrs and 4hrs? Not sure what’s the best break up of the 2 flights.

Long flight with toddler
CRISTIANE, PARENT OF 3 YEAR OLD

Hi,

I’m travelling with my 13 month old son to Brazil in 3 weeks. That’s a total of 12 hrs flying and I’m just wondering if you have any tips about toys/distractions on the plane? We did this trip before, when he was 5 months old, but he wasn’t mobile then, so it was easy. I’m dreading it now that he can’t sit still for longer than 2 seconds! Plus I’ll be on my own with him, as my husband isn’t coming. Any tips are welcomed!

Thanks in advance,
Cris.

ARIEL

Can you request a bassinet for the flight? Just travelled abroad with my 7 month old and he slept almost 6 hours in the onboard bassinet. It was amazing!

First while not a toy, nothing beats snacks! I would advise to bring new snacks that he hasn't tried before and/or a new snack trap and water bottle. These can be surprisingly enticing for little ones!

As for toys, here are a few suggestions:

Fisher-Price DoodlePro Trip is small and perfect for on the go.

https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-DGC31-DoodlePro-Trip-Aqua/dp/B00OZAI0FI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1514079593&sr=8-6&keywords=doodle+board
<br/>These magic coloring books are perfect for keeping little ones entertained with out any mess.

These reusable stickers also make for a wonderful airplane activity and the puffy stickers will be easier for your 13 month old son to use.

https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Puffy-Sticker-Play/dp/B01B1TIB8G/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1514080035&sr=1-2&keywords=puffy+sticker+activity+book

And this My Quiet Book is very sweet and engaging.

https://www.amazon.com/Quiet-Book-Toddlers-Pockets-Learning/dp/B00000J3LL/ref=pd_sbs_21_17?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00000J3LL&pd_rd_r=XWEVXCP7SW58H06NTC5E&pd_rd_w=tgxAg&pd_rd_wg=DV2qO&psc=1&refRID=XWEVXCP7SW58H06NTC5E

Requesting a bassinet is a great idea as long as your child would safely fit inside (at 13 months he may be too big). Will he sleep in a carrier? I suggest you bring a baby carrier anyway but if he'll snooze in it a while it's an added bonus. Or will he have his own seat? If so, you may want to look into the Fly Tot Inflatable Airplane Cushion which will allow him to stretch out an sleep more easily.

CRISTIANE

Thank you so much for the suggestions- I’ll definitely be buying those.

Jet lag?
ARIEL, PARENT OF 2 YEAR OLD

We are currently abroad with our 7 month old son and while he sleeps 12 hour nights at home, he is waking once or twice a night here (7 hour time difference) and I am wondering what’s going on? Is it jet lag? Has he regressed from his sleep training? How should I be dealing with the new night wakings? We have been here 3 nights and it has happened each night.

Natalie
NATALIE

There could be several reasons your little one isn't sleeping well abroad. From jet lag to being in a strange place and sleeping in a different bed, these could all be affecting his sleep. I would advise speaking to a sleep consultant in an upcoming Q&A for the best advice on dealing with night wakings and getting him back on his normal sleep schedule!

carseats for 3 on a flight
JANEL, PARENT OF 6 YEAR OLD, 4 YEAR OLD

Hi! We'll be flying with your 2yo twins and 4yo in Feb - logistically, how do we travel with three carseats??? We won't be installing them on the plane (tried that once with just one kid and it was very challenging!) but will get the CARES harness for the 2yos. However, I don't know exactly how to transport three carseats - two are Cosco so at least they're light! Do we check them at the gate (this seems like the smartest solution but so cumbersome - walking to the plane with 3 kids and 3 carseats!)? Or with our luggage? Do you suggest getting carseat covers so they're not damaged in the process? Thanks!!

Natalie
NATALIE

I would suggest checking your car seats with your luggage to avoid carrying them around the airport. Most airliners will allow you to check for free and it will save you a lot of hassle.

I would also advise using travel covers on each to avoid any damage to the car seats.

First time solo travelling with 2
CRISTINA, PARENT OF 5 YEAR OLD, 2 YEAR OLD

Hi. In about 2 days I will have to take a 3 hour flight wth my 3.5 year old and my 8.5 months old. I am a bit concerned as we will have bags and all the winter attire is not making traveling any easier. Any tips on how I should be handling the situation? Thanks

Natalie
NATALIE

Hi Cristina,

My advise would be to take as little on the plane as possible and check whatever you can, including car seats. Depending on what the weather will be like at your destination and how long you anticipate you'll need to be outside once you get there, you can even check the majority of your winter attire. You can always pack it right on top and grab it out of your checked luggage once you arrive.

Utilize a stroller with added hooks such as oxo tot hooks or the mommy hook to help get bags around the airport. And definitely pack your baby carrier if you have one for your 8.5 month old! Having two hands will make it so much easier for getting around the airport, boarding the plane and getting your older child set up once on board.

Breast feeding and traveling
SHAE

My boyfriend family are going to new mexico next Jan. I have a 10 month old baby. They are going to traveling in cars. I still breast feed my baby. My baby will not feed from the bottle i tried everything he just want to feed from my breast. I dont know what do. I wish he will feed from bottle it would make a lot easy to travel in car with out stoping on the road trip.

Natalie
NATALIE

Yes, it can be difficult to travel with a baby who refuses the bottle! I can advise on the best bottles for breastfeeding moms which I have posted below. Perhaps he will prefer one of these bottles if there is one on the list you haven't already tried.

Otherwise, I would advise you post your question in one of breastfeeding Q+A's to receive advice on helping your baby feed from a bottle!
