Is my baby still a newborn?
JOHANA RAMOS, PARENT OF 22 MONTH OLD

Hi Caroline! My baby girl will be two month old this 11th. Is she still considered a newborn? Also i think my baby sleeps great, not 6 or 12 hours but she can sleep whole 4 hrs. Even do naps. Wuhuuuu!!! The only problem is that this happens only during the day. She can sleep great even if i do lots of noise but when it gets to 8 or 10 pm she wont sleep anymore. I understand it’s because she isn't tired anymore from all that sleeping during the day, but wanted to know if i can help her figure out its the other way around. It hard for me to keep her up during the day. I try to play with her, give her tummy time, talk to her, with toys, ect... but in like 1 or 2 hrs she gets angry because she wants to sleep . Im I doing something wrong? She usually falls asleep after me trying alot like at 1 or 2 am. Thats when her dad gets home. But he is usally home only on weekends because he works two jobs....

Hi Johana! Baby are labeled as newborns until they are about 3 months old. At two months old she cannot be up for more than an hour, so try to get her down before she gets overtired (= before she gets angry). Wake her from a nap if she's still asleep after two hours and see if that helps with the night sleep.

JOHANA RAMOS

But if they not up for more than an hour, why doesn’t she sleep at all from like 8 or 10 until 2-4 am????

JOHANA RAMOS

Some times i wake her up but thats dies not work

This could have various reasons and without digging into it deeper it's hard to tell. She could still have some day/night confusion going on, if she is really fussy during this time, she could be experiencing what is called purple crying which prevents some babies from getting rest, or she could be overtired, or hungry.

JOHANA RAMOS

The time that she does not want to sleep she does not cry. She falls asleep in a chair i have for her but when i put her in her crib she just wont give in till she is so tired she cant fight it anymore. Sometimes swaddling works others not.....

Help!
LAURA

My husband and I haven't slept since bringing baby home two weeks ago. Our lo doesn't sleep for more than 30 minutes at a time. Is this normal? Does it ever get better?

Hi Laura! Ugh, it can be so tough at first. It can be normal but I would definitely bring it up with the pediatrician during the well-baby visits. The first thing to check is if your baby is eating enough. Is your baby getting overstimulated maybe? Try to keep the room where he/she sleeps really dark and use a whitenoise machine. Does he/she seem uncomfortable? Swaddling is really beneficial at that age to extend sleep periods. If you don't want to use a blanket for that, Halo, Swaddleme and other make nice and easy to use swaddle sacks.
