Hi! My daughter is almost 12 months old and my goal/plan has always been to breastfeed her for one year. My wish is to be done with pumping while I'm at work but I still want to breastfeed her when we are together (mostly in the mornings and before bed- I'm not sure that I would be able to make milk only on weekends to breastfeed throughout the day?). I'm assuming that's something I can do? Does she start drinking whole milk during the day, to replace breastmilk?

Awesome job Breastfeeding mama! |
Hi. My 7 month old is getting solids 3 times a day no, and she seems to be much more receptive to eating them when she's freshly awake from a nap and much more receptive to breastfeeding when she's sleepy. I always followed an EASY schedule when she was younger, so is it okay to give her solids when she wakes from a nap and then breastfeed her 1-2 hours later before her next nap?
My 12 week old will latch onto the bottle but will only drink about 1.5 oz max before she refuses. She also is fussy the entire time she drinks from it. Any suggestions?

Hi Kristen! Thanks for asking our first question today! Happy to try and help. A few quick clarifying questions: what's in the bottle breast milk or formula? And...how often are you taking a break to burp? Lastly, what size nipple is in bottle? |

Kristen She recieves breast milk from the bottle. My husband feeds her the bottle and he burps her every few minutes. The nipple is the newborn size with the slowest flow. He had tried paced feeding but it did not seem to help. |

Interesting! All things I would recommend :) at first I thought perhaps she was uncomfortable and needed more burping, but it sounds like you guys have that covered! Transitioning to occasional bottles for a breast-fed baby can sometimes take a little practice. I have found that using freshly pumped milk helps at the beginning (if that's logistically possible). Ive also found that it's more successful when we hold baby in a very different position than she's used to while nursing. So, make sure not to sit in the same rocking chair and lie her on the Boppy and that sort of thing. In fact, try to change up the hold and environment completely. Hopefully that will help. I'm curious if baby is hungry very soon after the small bottle? What happens if you re-offer it (if it's within the hour)? |
My six month old daughter takes 5 oz of milk before she refuses it, then soon she starts to be fuzzy. At night she wakes up after four hours starts crying until I feed her then she goes back to sleep for three hours again she wants milk. How can I get her to sleep through the night

Hi Jomole - what time is baby going down to sleep? I find sometimes baby gets fussy and cluster feeds (eats often) because they are overtired! Could this be the issue? |
Hi. My 4.5 months old only breastfeeds ( he does it quite often), for the past 3 days he has been having green poo. I do try to offer him same breast if I feel he hasn't emptied it but if he doesn't want it and wants to move to the other, there is nothing I can do....
thanks

Hi, Christina -- The pediatricians I've worked with aren't too concerned with green poop as long as baby is content and acting normally. [Note - pediatricians do want to know about red, black or white poop so call your doctor if you ever see these :)] |
